OUR LIBRARY

Library class:

Each class, Kindergarten through Grade 5, receives one scheduled library class per week. During this time great things happen!

  • Students may renew or exchange returned books for new ones to enjoy at school and at home.
  • Students will be introduced to the styles of many different authors and illustrators and become authors and illustrators themselves!
  • We will talk about how to care for books.
  • Students will learn about the many ways to search for information.
We will talk about using the search stations in our library to look for books.
  • We will often explore books together as a class.
  • There will also be time provided for students to spend reading their chosen books on their own.

Students will be able to participate in our monthly themes, contests, and keep a year long reading record.

Taking books home:
Students in Kindergarten, Grade 1, are allowed to have one book checked out in their name.

Students in Grades 2, 3, 4, and 5 may have two books check out in their name.

A book is returned successfully if all of the following are true:

  • It is returned on time. Books may be out for one week.
The due date is always the next week's library class.
  • It is returned clean and undamaged. Please protect our books from getting wet, dirty, ripped, creased, or written in. Nearly 300 people share these books, so take care of our books so that everyone may enjoy them.

Just in case:

Overdue books

  • If a student has an overdue book they will not be permitted to check out a new book until the matter is resolved.

  • Overdue notices are sent each Monday to the classroom teacher.
  • Once a book is overdue for three weeks the book will be considered lost.

    Lost or damaged books
  • If a book is lost or damaged, students will be required to pay for the replacement cost of the book.
  • A letter will be sent home with the student stating this cost.
  • Payment for lost or damaged books may be cash or cheques (payable to Park Meadows School) and given to the library. A receipt will be issued.
  • If a book was lost and paid for but later found and returned in good condition, the replacement cost paid will be refunded to the student.
